Silence of Leaves

Today
when the sun split
the clouds
I thought of butterflies,
but a car hurrumphed by
and a jogger padded past.

Still
the air breathed gum tree
and clouds toyed
with my dreams,
dancing fancies.

But
the silence of leaves
rippled like breakers
on your freshly born beach,
and I was alive like
children squabbling,
heartfully new.
