Burning world

When summer was consumed
by flames
she froze
in the gum tree,
blackened paws.

As smoke choked the sky
wind whipped searing wind,
choking hell
limping through
smouldering debris.

Then the end came to her
as it came to so many others,
alone in an orange nightmare,
and we taste the ash
of her blackened world.
