when I was ten years old,
a city kid staying in Wangaratta
with some lovely country folk.

Almost shot a rabbit once
when the menfolk took me hunting,
a city kid in tangled bush
the men wore hunting gear.

Almost shot a rabbit once
it was sitting near a gum tree,
I was handed a .22 calibre rifle
the men carried shotguns.

Almost shot a rabbit once
the hunters told me to shoot,
I looked at the unsuspecting prey
then shot a branch instead.

but hit the target I aimed for.
